I know everyone does this, but the most effective is a Grease Theme. There is a lot of great music you can get people in the crowd to come down and dance too (the American Bandstand music could actually be a competition you lead students in!)
OR if you dont want to, you wouldnt even have to use the characters from Grease...you could set up a coffee shop, have a little skit, and then you could even use that background as a background for a pie eating contest...But to make it funny, you would have 5 contestants, blindfolded, but tell 4 of the 5 to just sit there...so the 1 contestant (usually the head football coach) is pigging out...it is hysterical.
