DanceCheer.NET Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Due to the increasing number of emails DanceCheer.NET receives, it has become necessary to develop a Frequently Asked Questions ("FAQ") section to help answer commonly asked questions. Please bear with me because I am only one person handling a site that receives over 27,000 hits a DAY. If you email me, I will try my hardest to answer any questions that are not answered on this page. This site was designed so that coaches, dancers, cheerleaders, and others in the spirit industry have a virtual community where they can network with others of similar interests to get the help or resources they need. It would be physically impossible for I myself to personally assist thousands of people each day. I am happily married with a beautiful 5 year old son and they, as well as God, are the top priorities in my life. Though I do promise to try to help when I can. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

Here are some of the most common questions we receive...

Advice, Tips & Info

  • I need advice/tips on ____________(ie: tryouts, technique, starting a team, dance moves, jumps, team names, team colors, team issues, getting sponsors, etc.)...could you help?

I am sorry but DanceCheer.NET receives 27,000 hits a day and I am unable to advise each individual who emails me. This website was designed for you to be able to network with others who may be able to help you with your own unique situations...not for me to personally help the numerous inquiries I receive every day. I care about you and want each and every one of you to get the assistance you need (that's why I started this site in the first place), but I regret that I cannot personally assist each and every one of you. Please visit the forums or Dance United, and post your messages to the appropriate sections for help. Or if you want more personalized assistance and would like to pay a specialist for their services, then please visit the Spirit Mall's Consultants & Specialists category.

Another great solution would be to take online classes at SpiritU. Most of the classes are created in response to frequently asked questions where people are not finding the help they need in the forums or through pen pals. SpiritU e-classes are taught by the top professionals in each field so you can be assured that you will get the best assistance possible catering to your own personal needs which are related to that class.

There are so many questions for so many different types of help. Please be sure to take some time to visit the Spirit Library and the Spirit Mall, because we have a lot of solutions for everything from kicks, prep classes, choreography, tryout tips, and more. I find that many people just haven't taken the time to really surf the DanceCheer.NET community and see what all it has to offer. It is very comprehensive, so if all else fails, try using the search engine listed under the "finder" button at the bottom of each page.

  • I need advice/tips/info on ____________ on trying out for a pro cheer or dance squad)...could you help?

I am sorry but DanceCheer.NET receives 27,000 hits a day and I am unable to advise each individual who emails me. This website was designed for you to be able to network with others who may be able to help you...not for me to personally help the numerous inquiries I receive every day. I care about you and want each and every one of you to get the assistance you need (that's why I started this site in the first place), but I regret that I cannot personally assist each and every one of you.

Due to popular request, we are working on a pro dance and cheer class for SpiritU. Please watch the forums or SpiritU catalog for upcoming classes.

Another great solution would be to visit the forums and post your messages to the appropriate sections for help. Or if you want more personalized assistance and would like to pay a specialist for their services, then please visit the Spirit Mall's Consultants & Specialists category. There are qualified people who offer prep classes for pro dance and cheer tryouts.

Also, make sure to visit the Pro Cheer section of the Spirit Library. I find that many people just haven't taken the time to really surf the DanceCheer.NET community and see what all it has to offer. It is very comprehensive, so if all else fails, try using the search engine listed under the "finder" button at the bottom of each page. Good luck with your tryouts!

  • Hi I am new to all of this. I'm having problems with _______ on my team. What can I do? Help!

I am sorry but DanceCheer.NET receives 26,000 hits a day and I am unable to help each individual who emails me. Please visit the site and get to know the sections. In this case, I would recommend that you post your question in the forum related to your discipline or look in the Adopt-A-Mentor section (where there may be someone willing to act as a mentor to you). We also teach coaches and students how to deal with situations like these in the SpiritU classes.

  • I am working on an assignment and need information on ______ (ie: the history of ______). Can you help?

I am sorry but DanceCheer.NET receives thousands of hits a day and I am unable to advise each individual who emails me. This website was designed for you to be able to network with others who may be able to help you...not for me to personally help the numerous inquiries I receive every day. I care about you and want each and every one of you to get the assistance you need (that's why I started this site in the first place), but I regret that I cannot personally assist each and every one of you.

What I would recommend is that you go the the Interact section of the website and post a question asking for help on whatever topic you need to the most relevant forum. For example, if you are wanting the history of dance teams, then post the question to the Dance Teams forums. We have some impressive visitors who visit this site regularly, so you should be able to get some quality help this way. Good luck!

  • Do you have any cool routines for my squad. We're desperate for them.

I offer choreography services for a prepaid fee. So if you are interested in hiring me, please send me an email stating that you are interested in hiring me and specifying information about the type of routine needed (ie: style, if it will use props or poms, etc.), the number of members on your squad, the date you'd need the routine by, and where you are located. Then I will get back to you with a quote.

Other options would be for you to visit the video section of the Spirit Mall and purchase choreography videos. We will be adding more videos to the video category in Spring of 2000 and as new videos come to market, so check back often for the latest releases.

The only free possibility for getting choreography is to try checking the Adopt-A-Team forum in the Dance United section to see if anyone has offered to help teams in need like yours. Good luck!

    Cheers

  • I am new to coaching and need some good cheers. Could you send me some?

I am sorry but DanceCheer.NET receives thousands of hits a day and I am unable to help each individual that emails me personally. The purpose of the DanceCheer.NET web community is for those involved in dance, cheer, guard, etc. to have a place to network and help each other out. You will find a lot of cheers posted in the Cheers & Chants forum in the Interact section of our web community. If you don't see what you need there, then simply post a message specifying what you need and most messages get the help they need. Meanwhile, please accept my sincere wishes for a rewarding and successful squad!

    Clip Art

  • I have _________ situation and I don't have a webpage to where I can link to you in order to get the free clipart. I am only wanting to download ONE image from your clipart gallery, but I hate to join for just one image. Can I get the ______ image?

I am sorry but DanceCheer.NET must stay with the policy as stated on the clipart section. It would not be fair for us to allow some access while others pay or use the required link. The money from paid memberships go toward maintaining other free areas of the DanceCheer.NET web community plus those funds will eventually help us add even nicer clipart according to the input we have received from our visitors and clipart members.

    Donations

  • We are a performing group and have no money to ___________ (ie: go to competition, start a team, buy uniforms, etc.). Will you sponsor us or donate ________ (ie: uniforms, equipment, supplies)?

I am sorry but DanceCheer.NET gets a lot of requests like these and we are not able to financially support these types of groups. We'd recommend visiting the fundraising forum and the fundraisers page.

    Forums

  • I tried to post a message to the Trading Post pleading for anyone to donate ____________ (flags, equipment, etc.) to our team, but it never got posted. Can you help?

It is important that you read and understand the policies when using any of the DanceCheer.NET services like the forums and clipart sections. Requests for supplies are only accepted on the Trading Post with a prepaid fee as listed in the Posting Policies on the Trading Post page. Our goal is to keep the Trading Post streamlined so that buyers and serious traders can find what they need easily. When we allowed requests to be posted for free, the Trading Post started to be overwhelmed with requests for free items as compared to those who were offering to sell or loan their supplies and the products being offered were getting lost in the sea of postings requesting supplies. So we had no choice but to change it to where just the postings offering to sell, trade or loan items are free of charge but any requests for supplies now require a prepaid fee. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

  • I tried to post some messages on your forum(s) and they have been removed...why?

The main purpose of the forums are for visitors to be able to network with other coaches, dancers, cheerleaders, twirlers, etc. for the purpose of learning more about dance, bettering your skills, finding resources, jobs, etc. They are not for advertising, negative comments, unrelated posts, spam or outside parties who may have questionable interests. If a forum posting is questionable in any way or falls outside of the posting policies, then it will be removed without notice. Thanks in advance for everyone's cooperation in keeping these forums filled with quality information and contacts.

    In Search of...

  • I am looking for a _____ team in _____ state. Can you help?

I am sorry but I do not personally know all the teams across the country. I would recommend that you post your question in the Dance Team 101, Cheer, Guard or whatever forum is relevant.

  • I am looking for a camp/clinic/competition in _____ state. Could you send me information on camps and competitions, or a schedule for next year? Can you help?

I am sorry but I do not personally know all the camps, competitions, clinics, etc. which are offered across the country. I would recommend that you visit the Camp & Competition Guide which lists the states in which these companies offer these events. Though this list is by no means a comprehensive listing of all camps that may be offered in your state. There is also a Calendar of Events which lists camps and competitions by date. Thanks!

  • Where can my daughter get lessons or learn about cheerleading/dance/colorguard/twirling in our city/state?

I am sorry but I do not personally know all the prep classes or gyms which are offered across the country. I would recommend that you visit the Prep Classes category of the Spirit Mall which lists people who specialize in this type of instruction. Even though they may not be located in your area, they travel or teach via video. You could also post a message to the forum of your discipline (ie: dance team, cheer, guard,, twirling) asking if anyone is located in your area. Another option is to check with local gyms and dance studios which often teach classes of this type. Another option is to approach a cheerleader or officer of a local school, though bear in mind that when hiring someone via the forums or local schools, you don't always know what you are getting for your money.

    Jobs & Job Openings

  • My organization is looking to hire a _____ instructor. Can you help?

I am sorry but I am not able to help each individual who emails me. Please visit the e-jobs section and post your job opening in the appropriate section.

  • I'm looking for a job in_______. Can you help?

I am sorry but I am not able to help each individual who emails me. Please visit the e-jobs section to view job openings and/or to post your own job request or resume. I created these forums for that very purpose and they have been very effective in putting prospective employers and job candidates together. Good luck!

    Looking For Teams

  • I am on a high school drill team, and I was wondering which colleges have drill teams, and if there are scholarships.

We no longer have our Club Dance section where we listed college dance teams. That section was too time consuming and expensive to keep up. For scholarship information, so you may want to look up the college dance teams of interest and contact them about scholarship information. I know that many of the competitive college dance teams offer scholarships. Good luck!

  • I am wanting to try out for _____ pro dance/cheer team and found a link on your site, but their site is down or does not show tryout info. Could you please send me _______ (contact, tryout, etc.) info?

We no longer offer that section on our website. Plus we do not have access to the pro teams' information any more than you do. We simply provided the pro cheer links as a free service so that you can find what little information is available as easily as possible. If you need more information on a particular squad, I'd recommend calling information to get the phone number for the pro team that they represent (or look up their website online), and usually they can tell you how to contact whomever is in charge of that team's pro dance or cheer squad.

Looking To Get Exposure or Support of DanceCheer.NET

  • We have a new company and specialize in ____________ (products, services, camps). I didn't know if you were interested in this type of product. If so, Please visit our site at ____________.

I get numerous email solicitations and am not interested in buying products unless they are available wholesale at a price low enough that I can retail it at a price equal to what your company's retail price. If you do not deal in wholesale, and are interested in advertising your products in the Spirit Mall, enjoying exposure on a site that attracts over 26,000 hits a DAY, then please visit the Sponsorship section for all your sponsorship options.

  • We are holding a camp/competition/clinic soon and are looking for several businesses to sponsor us by purchasing an ad. Please let me know if you would like to support us ASAP.

I receive a lot of these requests, and will consider them only if you can specifically tell me the number of coaches who attend. We prefer to do an advertising exchange where we will list your organization and event while you return the favor by placing an ad in your brochure. The extent of the exposure that we offer you would depend on the extent of the exposure you could offer us. For example, we consider factors like attendance statistics, size and number of ads, frequency of ads, whether your market one that we are targeting, etc.

Spirit Mall Contents, Products, Mailing Lists, Updates & Catalogs

    • Can you please tell me a phone number or address where I can order?

If you click the "Order Now!" link on a product, you will find our address, phone number, phone hours, holidays, and other important information listed on all the order forms in our Spirit Mall. Or in the shopping cart, just click the "About Us" link on the lower right column for the same info.

    • I get a little confused as to how the Spirit Mall works. Could you please explain the whole Spirit Mall concept?

I'd like to begin by defining what the Spirit Mall is. It is easiest to think of the Spirit Mall as being like a traditional "mall," only online. It houses various companies (sort of like a traditional mall has "stores") who offer their own products and/or services. Think of it like visiting numerous stores offering merchandise which is geared mainly toward dance, drill team, cheer, colorguard, twirling, coaching and other spirit related fields. Think of DanceCheer.NET as the Mall's building and management...housing one convenient place for shoppers to find dance, cheer, coaching and spirit-related products and services. In addition to the products and services listed by other companies in the Spirit Mall, however, DanceCheer.NET has now started selling products directly in the Spirit Mall. Many times you will not know if a product is distributed by DanceCheer.NET or by another spirit company. DanceCheer.NET decided to start selling products in order to fill a void by offering products we feel are in great demand yet were not being listed by other companies in the Spirit Mall. These products are items that we get a lot of requests for, so we feel it is important to respond accordingly and cater to our visitors. So if you are looking for specific products or services, and having a hard time finding what you need, then be sure to contact us. If we do not have it, we will try to find it for you. Our goal is for you to feel like you are walking into a virtual mall to shop just like you would a traditional mall. In time, we hope to offer sales racks just like a traditional mall's stores would have.

    • Can you send me some catalogs?

Currently I do not have a hard copy catalog of products and services distributed by Leslie's Best and DanceCheer.NET. I also do not carry catalogs for the products and/or services listed in the Spirit Mall by other companies. All products distributed by DanceCheer.NET are currently listed in the Spirit Mall under various categories. Catalogs are very expensive, so we basically use the Spirit Mall as an online catalog of sorts. This enables us to offer the lowest prices possible versus other companies who pass the costs of catalogs on through higher prices on the products. So if you are interested in a certain product which is distributed by DanceCheer.NET (like CheerMix for example), then all the information is listed online that we would otherwise have listed in a hard copy catalog. Feel free to print the page for future reference.

Bear in mind that the Spirit Mall is like a traditional "mall." It houses various companies who offer their own products and/or services, so you will need to contact them for their own catalogs. DanceCheer.NET does not carry their catalogs. We simply list them so that you can find them more easily in one convenient location. You may also visit the main Spirit Mall page and submit the Catalog Request Form in order to request catalogs from several companies at once. Remember that some companies have certain requirements before they send you a catalog. Some will only send catalogs to directors. Some have minimum order requirements. Some are wholesalers and only deal with retailers, and not coaches. We try to list any criteria like that on our ads when possible.

    • Can you send a sample of ______ (ie: fabrics, fringes, etc.)?

I'm sorry but we do not send free samples of fringes, fabrics, etc. You may want to check with your local fabric shop for those things. Or look at our order forms for information on purchasing samples.

    • Can you send me information on your camps, SpiritU classes, uniforms, products, etc?

Currently we do not offer camps, nor do we sell uniforms directly. The camps and uniforms that you see listed in the Spirit Mall are simply listed for your convenience...kind of like a Yellow Pages phone directory lists companies and suppliers. The only difference is that we specialize in dance and spirit products. So if you are looking for uniforms, camps, or other products, please visit the Spirit Mall and contact those companies directly. Oh, and please tell them that you found them at www.DanceCheer.NET so that we can continue to offer you these free directory listings. Thanks! As for SpiritU, please read the SpiritU section before emailing us (especially the "Before U Begin" and "FAQs" sections). Since we get so many email inquiries, we regret that we are only able to reply to those that are not answered on our website already.

    • Could you please send me your newsletter?

We do not currently have a newsletter. If you are referring to our DanceCheer.NET "Email Updates", those are simply emails which update you on this website's latest news of interest.

    • Why do some places on your website say you receive 27,000 hits a day and other places say other numbers of hits?

Good question. As with any website, traffic varies significantly. We may receive 27,000 a day one month, and 100,000 hits a day another month. Either way, whether it be 26,000 hits a day or 100,000 hits a day, we are very happy and humbled to be getting so much traffic.

    • Are your CheerMix CDs, Kick The Hat Test booklet, videos and other products are in regular stores?

No, many of the products listed on DanceCheer.NET are not available in retail stores, whether online or in traditional store fronts. That is the main reason I started DanceCheer.NET. I saw people from small towns or simply new directors who were not finding the products, services and/or resources for dance, cheer or spirit-related fields. DanceCheer.NET has formed a virtual community where you can find a large and growing selection of products and services in one convenient location.

    SpiritU

    • Can you please send me more information about SpiritU?

We get a lot of inquiries about SpiritU, so you may wish to look over our SpiritU section. Be sure to read the Before U Begin and FAQs section in SpiritU.

    Misc.

    • May I suggest that you list things by state and we can access info by clicking on a particular state? It might make things easier to read and also help people find things they are looking for quicker (ie: jobs, relocations etc....)

I can't tell you how much I appreciate everyone taking the time to send their suggestions. I try to design this site according to your input as much as possible. I am trying to run this site as best I can with the time and resources that I have. If I were to offer job or other postings organized by state, then I would have to offer over 50 separate forums for each section. Not only does that get to be expensive for web costs, but it is also very time consuming since I try read each and every message posted to DanceCheer.NET in order to filter spam as often as I can. The only way this could be made possible is to offer it as a paid service, which I am trying to avoid at this point. If you would be willing to pay a yearly membership to use a more organized job section (perhaps $9.95/year for unlimited use), then please email me to let me know. If I receive enough responses, then I will consider setting up a more organized forum. Many DanceCheer.NET visitors have NO idea how much time and money I spend on this site, and just like anyone else, I too need to make time to earn a living for my family. So if this is to become the site that everyone desires, they either need to help support it or be patient until we get enough sponsors and sell enough products so that the income supports that extra time and expense. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we grow. :)
